Why Choose Waterproof Curtain Fabric

By admin / Date Jul 07,2023
If you want your curtains to repel water, choose a waterproof fabric that resists oil and mildew. A good choice is olefin, also known as polypropylene. It’s solution or pigment dyed and is inherently UV resistant.
Alternatively, consider choosing marine vinyl fabric like expanded Vinyl (Polyvinyl chloride) with fabric backing or Naugahyde. These fabrics are ideal for marine upholstery and covers, boat enclosures, seating, tonneaus and awnings.
Water-Repellent
Waterproof fabrics are not your everyday sewing fabric but for certain projects they offer a great alternative. These fabrics are made with a durable waterproof finish that closes all pores on the fabric making it totally immune to any water penetration.
This waterproof material is often used to make raincoats, umbrellas and other outdoor clothing and accessories. It can also be used indoors to make things like waterproof tablecloths and baby bibs.
You can easily turn any fabric into a waterproof one by coating it with a polymer substance that creates an impenetrable barrier. The fabric is then treated with heat to activate the coating. There are also other methods of waterproofing fabric that involve treating it with special chemical treatments or adding a laminate. These methods work in much the same way as the polymer coating does but are less expensive and more common.
UV Resistant
Sunlight carries UV (ultraviolet) rays that can cause fabrics to fade over time. The best way to prevent this is by choosing a fabric that has been treated to be UV resistant. All Phifer Designed Fabrics have been tested to ensure they meet this requirement, and the printed polyester and woven acrylic fabrics are rated for up to 750 hours of protected sun exposure.
For an even more durable solution, look for olefin fabric. This synthetic fiber, also known as polypropylene, is inherently UV resistant and won't fade in direct sunlight. It's also easy to clean, and our vinyl-coated olefin has been treated with Microban to protect against mildew and mold growth. This makes it a great choice for waterproof curtain fabric. For the ultimate protection, choose a fabric that has been double-coated with this treatment.
Easy to Clean
Besides the obvious benefit of being impermeable to water, some fabric shower curtains also resist mold and mildew. They are machine-washable, which makes them easy to keep clean. Some also come with ties or rods that allow you to easily adjust them for changing light levels, seasons, and other needs.
If you’re looking for a liner to pair with your new shower curtain, try the Bathage Fabric Shower Curtain and Liner. This 2-in-1 product is made from polyester coated with a waterproof, antimicrobial coating, which helps it resist mold and mildew. The liner snaps on below a sheer panel, so you can leave it in place when you wash your curtain. It’s available in a white shade that’s opaque enough to eliminate the need for an additional curtain.
Durable
A waterproof fabric for a shower curtain isn’t only designed to repel water, but also to resist mold, mildew and other problems that can arise from dampness. This can be especially important if you live in a humid climate where humidity can quickly cause some fabrics to mold or mildew, which can not only look unsightly but can also be a health hazard.
You can use waterproof fabric for a shower curtain or liner, or you can sew it into other household items like beach bags, tote bags, tablecloths and more. You can even find waterproof fabric treated to reduce the growth of mildew for an added layer of protection against moisture and odors. Whether you prefer to use store-bought sprays or you want to try your hand at the tried-and-true method of waxing, there’s a durable waterproof fabric for you. The Liba shower curtain is made of polyester and features a protective waterproof coating to help keep water away from the body. It has rustproof metal grommets for easy attachment to standard shower hooks or rings, and its neutral white color looks great with most bathroom decor.
